From today all information will be on the new school website, although this blog will remain open for a short while until everything is running smoothly. The new website will grow and develop over time with the contributions of all the teachers and others in the community. Using the same structure as the blog this will make it possible for it to be dynamic, constantly changing, and an essential starting point for existing students, teachers and parents, as well as for visitors. We will welcome feedback and will adapt according to opinion and feedback….although please give us some time to develop things further! We hope that you will find the presentation fresh, visual and lively!

And finally…thanks for using this blog!

Texel day 3

Vandaag was de wind het sterkst! Na een bezoek aan het juttersmusem, waar we een leuk verhaal van een echte jutter te horen kregen, gingen we garnalen vangen met een echte vissersboot. Het was koud en het water sloeg over de boeg. Daarna mochten we de gevangen garnalen eten. Toen we weer naar het hostel fietsten moesten sommigen van ons afstappen en anderen vielen om door de harde wind. Lachen! Vanavond laatste avond, jammer………

Greetings from a very, very, very windy Texel.
We cycled with the wind coming at us from every possible direction! And then someone had the bright idea of cycling up a hill- to add to the challenge. But we survived- despite it all ! Tonight we have a nice party evening and the students are busy making themselves beautiful. Now it has just started raining but luckily we are indoors tonight. The boat/ ship thingy was wonderful wind force 7-8 ! So loads of excitement!
Cross your fingers for an easy cycle.

Et voici le récit de notre seconde journée sur l’ile ensoleillée…
La matinée a commencé par une petit heure de vélo pour se rendre au “Slufter”, endroit naturel assez spécial où nous avons pu faire connaissance avec quelques plantes vivant dans un milieu salée et découvrir les crabes, les crevettes…puis, après un lunch pris au soleil, nous nous sommes rendus, toujours en vélo au centre “Ecomare” où nous avons eu des informations sur Texel ( formation…) et sur les phoques.
Nous voici de retour à l’auberge, tout le monde a bien pédalé et apprecié cette journée ( deuxième ) au plein air…

Cow-Parsley/Reuzenberenklauw

In the corner near the basketball pitch next to the gate and in the bushes stinging nettle and cow-parsley has been found. The school gardeners mow the plants down or use pesticides. However, remains of the plants and stalks are still be found. This means it is dangerous to walk into the bushes wearing short pants and pupils and teachers need to be especially carefull when looking for a ball.

Cow-parsley is a dangerous plant. Its sap is toxic, especially in combination with the ultraviolet rays of the sun; it will act as an acid and cause serious skin burns.

In case of skincontact:

- clean the skin with lots of water

- do not expose the effected skin to the sun for one week

- consult your G.P. in case of skin injury

In de hoek bij het basketbalveld naast het hek en in de bosjes staat brandnetel en Reuzenberenklauw. De hovenier van de school bestrijdt dit regelmatig door maaien en met een bestrijdingsmiddel. Toch staan er af en toe nog planten of resten. Het is daarom belangrijk om niet met een korte broek de bosjes in te gaan en goed uit te kijken bij het pakken van een ball

Reuzenberenklauw is een gevaarlijke plant. Het sap bevat een bijtende stof, die in combinatie met de ultraviolette stralen van de zon reageert als een zuur en ernstige brandwonden veroorzaakt op de huid.

Wat te doen na contact met de plant?

- Spoel onmiddellijk met veel water

- Vermijdt de zon met de aangedane huid gedurende 1 week

- Ga naar de huisarts als er letsel te zien is

Nous voici arrivés sur ” l’île” après quelques heures de vélo…Le voyage s’est bien passé, nous avons pu prendre le ferry de 13h30. Tout le monde est maintenant installé et content d’être a Texel. Nous avons eu quelque fois le vent contre, mais nous avons survécu les dunes de Schoorl, la digue de Petten, les dunes et la digue de Den Helder…
La promenade nocturne est prévue après le diner…et demain une grande journée remplie d’activités nous attend.

The students are all happy and contented trying out the swing, the football and everything else to do at the hostel.

Muck up day

The s7 students will celebrate the last day before the Bac exams on Friday 27th. They will give the students of S1,3, 4 and 5 a special welcome when they get to school, but they will be able to go to their lockers first and leave their bags, mobile phones and valuables first. It would be a good idea to bring some spare clothes just in case!

There will be normal lessons in periods 1-3, and then the S7 will have a special show in the aula. There will be normal lessons for all students in the afternoon, although the S7 will leave with their preliminary Bac mark certificates after they have cleared up.

We would like the day to go as smoothly as possible and be as much fun as possible….and everyone should come with a good sense of humour!

Missing gold wallet

Kia B, is missing her gold wallet which has several important documents such as Identity card and scooter license and a Bank Pas as well as cash.
This happened Friday 20 may on school grounds, it would be great if it is returned.

The end of the blog

With the launch of the new website on May 27th this blog will come to the end of its two year existence. Started as an experiment two years ago as a communication tool, it has become an effective way for many people in the school community to communicate with each other, and after 71,000 visitors it has clearly been well read with around 100 visits per day on average.

We hope that you will find the spirit of communication and sharing information a major feature of the new website which will grow and evolve from the starting point next week. We want to make the new website a central part of the communication process amongst the school community, and in particular to get the students using it as the starting point for all school-based activities. We will look forward to your feedback. In the meantime, farewell to this blog….I think it has served its purpose well!
